A cross-party delegation of MPs from the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Justice for Equitable Life Policyholders met the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Simon Kirby, this morning for a constructive meeting about the ongoing issue of substantial amounts of money still being owed to victims of the Equitable Life Scandal. As Chair of the APPG, Bob has been leading the charge to secure proper compensation for the hundreds of thousands of people affected.
The Treasury closed the payment scheme to new claims at the end of 2015 and has now published its final report on the scheme. 895,000 victims received £750 million between them - equivalent to just 22% of the losses they incurred as a result of a decade of government maladministration in the 1990s.
