Mullivaikal Remembrance Day

Bob joined members of the Tamil Community outside the MoD for Mullivaikal Remembrance Day and spoke in commemoration of all those who died during the armed conflict between the Sri Lankan Government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in May 2009. Mullivaikal was the name of a hospital which was destroyed with great loss of life during the genocide.

Meeting with the Indian High Commissioner

Bob met the Indian High Commissioner, His Excellency Navtej Sarna, at India House recently. They discussed his recently concluded visits to India as well as discussed ways in which UK-India relationship and interaction could be strengthened further. An Evening with Mohan Babu

Bob was pleased to host an event to welcome the legendary South Indian actor Mohan Babu and his family to Parliament, to celebrate 40 years of his contribution to arts and cinema, in partnership with Asian Lite Magazine. A recipient of one of the highest honours in India, the Padmashree Mohan Babu is a former politician, an educationist and a philanthropist who has encouraged a number of young people to pursue careers in cinema. International Yoga Day Curtain Raiser at Harrow Leisure Centre

Bob was the keynote speaker at the International Yoga Day Curtain Raiser hosted by the Mayor of Harrow and Art of Living Foundation at the Harrow Council Chambers. The event was supported by The All Party Parliamentary Group for Indian Traditional Sciences. A video message for the Yoga Day from His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living, was also shared on the day.

Meeting St Bernadette's School Council

Bob was pleased to visit newly Academised St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School for a Q&A with the school council. After discussing a range of topics including the local environment and education policy, he met with Headteacher David O'Farrell and the Chair of Governors, Pam Singh, to discuss their forward thinking programme in partnership with St Gregory's High School to support a high standard of attainment for their pupils.

Harrow College and Sports England Discussion

Bob facilitated a meeting between the Principal of Harrow College, Pat Carvalho and Sports England regards the future of its sports facilities, in particular its playing field. Sports England is currently working on its Youth and Community Strategy aimed at getting more young people into activity and sports so it was useful to come together to discuss how best they can support the college in this aim going forward.

An Interview with Cut Films

Bob was delighted to meet with representatives from Smart Ungdom and No Excuse Slovenia as part of the Cut Films campaign to help prevent young people from taking up smoking. This is a subject very close to Bob's heart and one which he has worked on a great deal in his role as Chair of the APPG Smoking and Health, so he was happy to discuss the work already underway, including creating preventative measures and also supporting smoking cessation services.

Democracy Forum Lunch

On April 26, Bob was invited to The Democracy Forum Annual Lunch organised by Ajit-Sat Bambra at House of Lords. The Democracy Forum was created as a platform for cross-sharing of ideas, concerns and hold discussions on prominent democracies in the world. Increasingly the discussions have remained primarily on India, the largest democracy.
