Harrow College and Sports England Discussion

Bob facilitated a meeting between the Principal of Harrow College, Pat Carvalho and Sports England regards the future of its sports facilities, in particular its playing field. Sports England is currently working on its Youth and Community Strategy aimed at getting more young people into activity and sports so it was useful to come together to discuss how best they can support the college in this aim going forward.

An Interview with Cut Films

Bob was delighted to meet with representatives from Smart Ungdom and No Excuse Slovenia as part of the Cut Films campaign to help prevent young people from taking up smoking. This is a subject very close to Bob's heart and one which he has worked on a great deal in his role as Chair of the APPG Smoking and Health, so he was happy to discuss the work already underway, including creating preventative measures and also supporting smoking cessation services.

Democracy Forum Lunch

On April 26, Bob was invited to The Democracy Forum Annual Lunch organised by Ajit-Sat Bambra at House of Lords. The Democracy Forum was created as a platform for cross-sharing of ideas, concerns and hold discussions on prominent democracies in the world. Sewa International School Inauguration

During a week-long visit to India, Bob inaugurated DIVYA, a residential school for children with disabilities in the village Jawhar in Maharashtra (India). Set up by the efforts of trustees and volunteers of Sewa International India and Sewa UK, the school provides special educational facilities to children from Jawhar and other villages in Maharashtra thereby plugging the gap in educational facilities for children with disabilities. Bob was very pleased to be invited to attend a public meeting held by the Edgware Friends of Israel at the Yeshurun Synagogue. He was able to discuss his work with the Conservative Friends of Israel, the APPG British Jews and APPG Antisemitism, and his support for Israel more generally in Parliament.

FirmFoundation Winter Night shelter

The FirmFoundation winter night shelter is run annually by a collection of churches in Harrow. Bob is always keen to make a visit to support the charity and to talk to the homeless people who are provided with food and shelter by volunteers while they are given vital support to find solutions to their immediate problems.

APPG Primary Care and Public Health Report Launch

As co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Primary Care and Public Health, Bob launched the group's latest report calling for a National Strategy for Self Care to combat the rise in the number of people using scarce and expensive A&E and GP resources to for self-treatable conditions like muscle strain and the common cold. Bob was pleased to be given the opportunity to attend the 35th World Culture Festival in New Delhi, hosted by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and the Art of Living team.
