A Chance to Shine

As a long time cricket fan, Bob was only too pleased to held spread the word about Chance to Shine, a national charity which aims to bring the sport to more young people, by taking part in a round of 'Street Cricket' with some of his Parliamentary colleagues. Raising Awareness of Brain Tumour Research

Bob attended an event held by Brain Tumour Research bringing together patients, charities, scientists, clinicians and supporters together to raise awareness of the disease and boost funding for research. As he was invited to 'wear a hat' for the event, Bob brought along a very nice statement hat which he received during a recent visit to India. Stanmore Synagogue Evening of Friendship

Stanmore Synagogue has one of the largest United Synagogue congregations in Europe. They held an Evening of Friendship in an effort to forge closer relationships and mutual understanding with the wider community locally. Bob was pleased to join in with the event which included a tour of their recently refurbished prayer halls, song and vegetarian refreshments.

Welcoming Yoel Edelstein to Parliament

Bob was pleased to meet the Speaker of the Knesset, the Hon. Yuli (Yoel) Edelstein, at a briefing session held by the Inter-Parliamentary Union during his official visit to the United Kingdom. He also attended a dinner held in the Speaker's House to welcome the senior Israeli politician to the UK.Edelstein was one of the founders and leaders of Yisrael BaAliyah, a party of new immigrants that ran for the Knesset for the first time in 1996 and won an unprecedented 7 seats in the 14th Knesset. Message In a Barrel

Bob added his voice to a campaign by the British Beer & Pub Association, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) by sending a ‘Message in a Barrel’ calling on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to cut beer duty in the Budget on 16th March. Beer tax in the UK remains far higher than that neighbouring European countries. In Germany, for example, the rate of tax on beer is some thirteen times lower than here in the UK.

Visit My Mosque day at the Hujjat Centre

Bob visited the Husaini Islamic Centre on a Visit My Mosque open day that welcomed thousands of local residents. The National event, which is organised by the Muslim Council of Britain, is in its second year in running and has received a tremendous response from local residents. It is an opportunity for people of all faiths to learn about Islam and build bridges between different religious faiths. Greek Orthodox Community New Year's Lunch Event

The Greek Orthodox Community in Harrow and Brent held a New Year's Lunch for local pensioners in their community hall, immediately after their Sunday Service and Bob was honoured to be invited to join in with the celebrations.The dinner, which was attended by the Mayor of Harrow, was kindly sponsored by Vice-President of the Community Council, Mr Andreas Georgiades.

Smoking and Tobacco Discussion with Harrow Cut Films

The Imperial Tobacco AGM will be taking place in Bristol on February 3rd and last year a group of young people gathered outside the venue in order to make some noise and draw attention to tobacco industry behaviour. Bob was happy to meet with a group of young people from Harrow Cut Films to discuss their concerns about smoking and the tobacco industry overall in advance of the next youth protest.
