Harrow Weald Festive Singalong

It's that time of year again and Harrow Weald is in a festive mood. Bob joined local Councillors Stephen Greek, Pritesh Patel and Ramji Chauhan at a Christmas Carol singalong to celebrate the new Christmas lights on the High Road. This is the first time such decorations have been put up and well done to the Harrow Weald Councillors for their work in making the necessary funding available.

The 'Poverty is Sexist' Campaign

Bob met a group of young journalists from Bentley Wood High School as part of a joint ONE Campaign and Student View lobby day in support of the 'Poverty is Sexist' campaign, which calls on world leaders to take action and support the 130 million girls worldwide who are denied their right to an education. Student View is a media charity creating newsrooms in schools across the capital, getting young people involved in work related to international development.

Visit to the Cardinal Hume Centre

Bob's Homelessness Reduction Act will come into force in April 2019 and organisations across the country are preparing. He was was pleased to make a visit to the Cardinal Hume Centre to see the excellent work they are doing to prevent homeless young people from sleeping on the streets and to support families living in inadequate bed and breakfast accommodation and he spoke with a group of advisors about his Act and how it will help those on the frontline of providing services. Mitzvah Day at Stanmore Synagogue

Bob had a busy Mitzvah Day, which fell on Sunday 19th November this year, heading to Stanmore Synagogue to take part in the soup making, tea making and collectathons taking place during the day. There was also a children’s craft fair and Knitathon, and a Seniors Tea for those who also attended the AJEX Parade on that day.

DiscoG Coding Grand Opening

Bob was pleased to cut the ribbon at the Grand Opening of DiscoG Coding, a new facility on Belmont Circle which offers tuition and support for young coders. Using the Raspberry Pi computer system, students are given the chance to learn coding, applying logical and analytical thinking and problem solving which will be highly valuable in their future working careers. AJEX Remembrance Parade and Ceremony 2017

Bob was honoured to attend the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women (AJEX) Annual Remembrance Ceremony at the Cenotaph on Whitehall with a group from Stanmore Synagogue once again this year. It was particularly poignant as 2017 marks the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele and the Middle East Campaign, as well as the 75th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid and the Second Battle of El Alamein.

Joint Mitzvah Day & Sewa Day RNOH Renovation

Mitzvah Day and Sewa Day are important days of volunteering for the Jewish and Hindu communites, and Bob got involved in a joint project between the Stanmore and Canons Park Synagogue and the Shree Swaminarayan Temple to renovate the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital's rehabilitation gardens. “It was truly rewarding to see volunteers from two local faith communities come together to help clear the gardens for our incredible Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital,” he said.
