Visit to Salvatorian College

Bob is keen to visit all of the schools in his constituencies as often as possible. Salvatorian College is an impressive academic institution that plays an active part in the local community. Bob met with the Head teacher and representatives of the Governing Body to discuss these concerns and see the school in action. In particular, the development of the College was discussed. This would allow more young people to gain from the education on offer and lead to permanent facilities.

Northwick Park Hospital held a fundraising dinner in support of their Heart and Stroke Research Campaign.

British Lung Foundation Children's Charter

Bob attended the Parliamentary Launch of the British Lung Foundation's Children's Charter to show his support for this exceptionally worthwhile charity. Whilst there, Bob met representatives of the charity and learnt of their desire to provide a smoke free environment for children. This is a cause that Bob actively supports as he is a campaigner against smoking and the terrible effects that smoking has on people.

CST Dinner

CST is an important organisation working to tackle and abolish Anti-Semitism. CST also provides security at synagogues and Jewish Schools. Bob recently attended a dinner organised by the company in order to learn more about their work over the past year.

Meeting re outsourcing APPG

Bob has recently met with the National Outsourcing Association and has agreed to help form an All Party Group on Outsourcing and Shared Services. Outsourcing and sharing services is a critical area of potential savings for both local and central government. However, there are vested interests, particularly in certain authorities where fiefdoms and long established ways of working will mean that there is resistance to the new ways of working.

Local Government Information Unit

As a member of the Communities and Local Government Select Committee, Bob recently attended a Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) roundtable discussion to talk about the important issue of self-funded care. This is a major issue for the future and needs to be addressed on a cross-party basis so that a solution is found that stands the test of time. Bob was interested to hear at first-hand how some local authorities were innovating in this key service.
